"Throwing my life into the scale is not only the only thing I can do - it's the right thing." Bobby Sands, convicted IRA , imprisoned in the infamous Maze Prison. For some, he is a hero and martyr, for the others a or an ordinary criminal. Bobby Sands was starved in Maze Prison in Northern Ireland in 1981 at the age of 27 - of will. With his death, he wanted to force the British government to recognize the IRA prisoners as political prisoners. One after the other, nine fellow prisoners have followed him into starvation. Sands died on May 5, 1981. Five months later, the British government allowed prisoners to wear civilian clothing.
